Relief printing is one of the oldest form of printmaking and the most common forms are woodcut, linocut and wood engraving. Students will be taught to use various techniques in relief printing such as transferrin a design to a block, using cutting and carving tools as well as alternative cutting tools and printing relief work by hand.
Stamping is an art form practiced for thousands of years. Ancient stamps and selas are made from natural materials such as bone, clay, stone, ivory, jade metal and even gold or silver. Students will learn to develop an abstract as well as traditional design using elements and principles of art and design and they will experience various techniques of impression such as lino-cut and black printing and to explore using materials such as cork linoleum, sponge, corrugated board, crumpled paper and wood block.
Stenciling is a craft of applying color through a precisely cut-out design onto almost any surface such as fabric, paper, wood or walls. This program engages students to develop a good design composition blending together the creative use of elements and principles of art and design. They will learn how to print using single or multi colours using appropriate stenciling techniques.
